BASSA PEOPLE CELEBRATE HISTORIC POLITICAL MILESTONE IN ABAJI AREA COUNCIL*

CONGRATULATORY MESSAGE TO THE NEWLY INAUGURATED BASSA APPOINTEES

Today, Tuesday, 11th August 2026, will remain a remarkable and historic day in the political history of the Bassa people of Abaji Area Council.

For the first time, three distinguished sons of Bassa extraction have simultaneously been appointed, sworn in and inaugurated into strategic positions within the cabinet of the Honourable Chairman of Abaji Area Council:

Hon. Audu Agaba – Council Secretary

Hon. Salihu Zakari Galadima – Supervisory Councillor for Education and Social Development

Hon. Ishaya Awozhe – Senior Special Adviser on Healthcare Services

This is more than an appointment; it is a milestone in political representation and recognition of the Bassa people within the leadership structure of Abaji Area Council.

We sincerely appreciate the Honourable Chairman, Abaji Area Council, Hon. Abubaka Umar Abdullahi for this unprecedented gesture. By entrusting these critical responsibilities to three sons of Bassa extraction, the Chairman has demonstrated confidence in the capacity, competence and loyalty of our people.

On behalf of the Bassa people of Abaji Area Council, we say thank you immensely, Your Honour Sir. We do not take this gesture for granted.

A RESPONSIBILITY, NOT JUST A PRIVILEGE

To our brothers, *Hon. Audu Agaba, Hon. Salihu Zakari Galadima and Hon. Ishaya Awozhe,* congratulations on this well-deserved elevation.

However, with every great opportunity comes an even greater responsibility.

Your appointments have generated excitement and pride among the Bassa people, but they have equally placed a responsibility on your shoulders to prove that when given an opportunity, the Bassa people can deliver with excellence, integrity and distinction.

This is a rare opportunity, and we must get it right.

We therefore urge you to remain committed, loyal and supportive of the administration under which you serve. Your cooperation with the Honourable Chairman and your dedication to the responsibilities assigned to you will be essential to the success of the administration.

At the same time, we encourage you to remain accessible to your people, listen to their concerns and ensure that the interest of the larger community is not lost in the pursuit of individual interests.

OUR DEVELOPMENT CHALLENGE



The Bassa people of the FCT, particularly those in Abaji Area Council, still have significant ground to cover in the areas of education, political participation, economic empowerment, healthcare, infrastructure and human capital development.

Our rural communities in particular require greater attention.

Therefore, these appointments should not merely be celebrated as political positions. They should become instruments for meaningful development and positive change.

We expect our brothers in these positions to identify opportunities, attract programmes and initiatives, support our youths, encourage education and skills acquisition, and contribute to policies and programmes that will improve the lives of ordinary people.

A CALL TO OUR YOUTHS

To our teeming Bassa youths in Abaji Area Council, this is our time to think beyond ourselves.

Let us approach our brothers in government with constructive ideas, practical proposals and development-oriented initiatives, rather than personal demands alone.

Let us build bridges instead of walls.

Let us seek opportunities for our communities, support education, promote entrepreneurship, encourage political participation and work collectively towards creating a better future for the coming generation.

The appointment of three Bassa sons into strategic positions is a door that has been opened. What we do with that opportunity will determine whether it becomes a pathway to greater representation or merely another political milestone that we failed to maximise.

OUR COLLECTIVE RESPONSIBILITY

The Bassa people must understand that political representation is only meaningful when it translates into development, empowerment, inclusion and improved opportunities for the people.

We therefore call on all Bassa sons and daughters, elders, youths and community stakeholders to support these appointees with prayers, constructive counsel and responsible engagement.

Let us avoid unnecessary distractions and allow them to succeed.

Their success is, in many ways, our collective success.
