FEMA Sensitises Gwagwalada Communities on Flood Risks, Visits Aguma of Gwagwalada Palace

The Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Agency, FEMA, has intensified efforts to prepare residents for possible flooding by embarking on a flood awareness campaign across vulnerable communities in the FCT.

As part of the exercise, officials of the agency paid a courtesy and sensitisation visit to the palace of His Royal Highness, Alhaji Mohammed Magaji Aguma, the Aguma of Gwagwalada, to raise awareness on the anticipated flooding in parts of Gwagwalada and Kwali Area Councils.

During the visit, FEMA officials briefed the traditional ruler on the flood forecast for the 2026 rainy season and stressed the importance of taking proactive measures to reduce the impact of flooding on lives, livelihoods, and property.

The agency called on residents, especially those living in flood-prone communities, to remain vigilant, comply with safety advisories issued by relevant authorities, and cooperate fully with emergency response agencies in the event of any disaster.

In his response, the Aguma of Gwagwalada, His Royal Highness Alhaji Mohammed Magaji Aguma, commended FEMA for its timely intervention and commitment to safeguarding the lives of residents across the affected communities.

The traditional ruler assured the agency of the palace's unwavering support in taking the flood awareness campaign to every community within Gwagwalada Chiefdom. He also urged residents to take all necessary precautions throughout the rainy season and avoid actions that could expose them to danger.

The monarch further appealed to community leaders, youth groups, and residents to work closely with government agencies and relevant stakeholders in promoting disaster preparedness and protecting vulnerable members of society from the effects of flooding.

The Palace of His Royal Highness, Alhaji Mohammed Magaji Aguma, reaffirmed its commitment to partnering with government agencies and stakeholders in promoting the safety, well-being, and sustainable development of communities across Gwagwalada Chiefdom.

Residents have also been advised to stay informed through official channels, heed flood warnings, and promptly report emergency situations to the appropriate authorities.
